Various courses like MassTransfer, Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics and Transport Phenomena haveprovided me with a strong footing in the theoretical concepts ofChemical Engineering. It was the field of Environmental Technologywhich particularly captured my inSTATEMENT OFPURPOSEAfter three and half years ofundergraduate study in Civil Engineering, I feel completely satisfied with mydecision to choose engineering as my career option as it has revealed mostpragmatic and down-to-earth approach to tackling human problems to me.
Myenthusiasm coupled with scope for innovations and opportunities available inthe civil engineering has motivated me to opt for higher studies and contributeto the field through meaningful research. I was born 23 years ago in a desolate small mountain village wherethere were only several rows of low and primitive huts constructedwith cob bricks. But when I returned to my hometown recently, I foundthat the one-time mountain village has given way to a sizable townwith modern facilities and utilities as a result of the on—goingnational campaign of urbanization.
This is just one instance thatillustrates the magic power of Civil Engineering in effecting radicalsocial and economic changes. I am an engineer, originally from Ghana, who now lives and works in Texas. I am writing this Statement in support of my application to enter the Doctoral Program in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of XXXX at Arlington.
I particularly enjoy working on behalf of applicants to graduate programs in engineering because of the great respect that I have for the engineer.
