death penalty has been an active force in the United States for decades. In the early history of our country, public executions were quite popular. Thousands have been executed with the majority occurring in the early twentieth century. But public sentiment towards the executions began to wane as the concepts of basic human rights were being developed throughout the century. Others are of the opinion that it can be used to prevent further crimes.People are just beings and can therefore make mistakes, if a prisoner was innocent and executed nothing can be done to make amends.
Although we have modern tools of science, like DNA testing, there is still a 1% chance that the person could be innocent. This resulted in a wide discrepancy of laws on this issue. Some nations including China, the US, Iran, Belarus, and others preserve the death penalty as an option, while others like Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and almost all European nations have abolished capital punishment.
