The teacher readily agreed and took us batch by batch to this event. We hired a big van and went along with our teacher to watch this grand event. It took 30 minutes to reach there. At around eleven, we were at the venue. We were stunned to watch this event. It was really a spectacle to watch. I perfectly agree with this view. I am a lover of books. I spend a good deal of my leisure, reading books. Books give me immense joy and satisfaction apart from knowledge.It dispels my tension for some time, at least.

Last January, I got the opportunity to visit the North-East book fair held at Guwahati. ADVERTISEMENTS:The book fair was organised by the Booksellers and Publishers of Assam and Northeast at the Judges Field, Guwahati from 10th Jan. to 20th Jan., 2003. A strong barricade of tin sheets and bamboos fencing were erected all round the field with a grand entrance. On this occasionthe whole area wore a festive look. Visiting the fair, this reporter watched aunique arrangement and a great festivity all over the fair.

There were a lot ofbookstalls beautifully decorated. Every book stall was full of various kinds ofbooks. Thousands of book-lovers were looking for their favorite books. Somepopular writers were present at some book stalls and their fans were surroundingthem. Some of the book-lovers were taking autographs from their favoritewriters.

Bangla Academy has arranged its ownbook stall which has a vast collection of books. This year books on theLiberation War of Bangladesh are in great demand. There is a foodcorner in the fair. I paid my visit to the Kolkata book fair this year with my parents on a mildly sunny spring afternoon. The fair was held in a very spacious ground with shops in abundance.

The paths around the fair were cemented.There were concrete benches where the visitors could take rest. The book stalls were big and there were usually enough room for people to move about and choose books from the shelves.This book fair, is more than just an event. Every year, a country is chosen to be the theme of the fair. This year, the theme of the Kolkata Book Fair was USA, so the pavilion was an enormous plywood replica of the White House which was the main attraction and the Pulitzer PrizeBook fairs are still in the formative stage of growth and they have not caught the attention of the public.

They are an annual feature and even with the grand publicity in the newspapers, in the television and the radio, they have not become popular places of visit.They do not draw people as some exhibitions on household articles, dress materials, electrical and electronic gadgets do. Books are still far down in the list of preferences of people.Taste for reading has not caught on with people as their social awareness is low.

Even educated people, even academicians do not care to read the latest books that appear in the market now and then. It is a sad state of affairs. This age is a technological age and there is much demand for technical and engineering books. It is said that literary books which cater to the taste of the intellectuals and writers do not sell fast like books on engineeLast year the National Book Trust of India organised The World Book Fair at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

It was a grand occasion for me. As I am very fond of books, I with my friends decided to visit and watch this mega festival. The entry was free for the students. Hence, we went to the Book Fair on the very inaugural day.The book fair was indeed a spectacle to watch.
