College essay intro sample
Your goal in writing your college essays is to create a self-portrait that singles you out and places you ahead of your competition at your target schools. To accomplish this, your essays will need to be creative, thoughtful, and compelling. My life without melodies and harmonies would be totally empty. Start with an example. Having a well-written introduction is critical to a successful essay. These essays were chosen for theirclarity, originality, voice, and style.
Some are emotional, some are cerebral, and some are acombination of the two. Others are funny, serious, philosophical, and creative. They are as different as the personalities of thepeople who wrote them, but what these essays all have in commonis their honesty and the effort put into creating them. These personal statements have one other thing incommon: the authors were admitted to the collegesof their choice.
Introduction TypesThe introduction is the most important part of your essay, and it has one purpose to fulfill above all others: to draw in the reader. Ideally this should all begin right from the attention-grabbing opening sentence. If the introduction can then go on to orient the reader to the focus of the essay, then that can be very helpful.
Orientation, however, is not an essential purpose because that can be achieved gradually in the essay. Many people make the mistake of writing a paragraph that explains what they are going to talk about in the rest of the essay.
